Lecturer, Poet, and Author
Christopher Okemwa is a lecturer of poetry and drama at Kisii University, Kenya. He is the founder and director of a local Kenyan CSO, Kistrech Theatre International. He is the founder and director of Kistrech International Poetry Festival in Kenya. He is also the founder and director of KICHLA (Kistrech Children’s Literature Association) of Kenya. He is a World Poetry Movement’s coordinator of poetry events in Africa.
International Award in Music
1990: Awarded Grade 5 Theory of music by The Associated Board of the Royal schools of Music, London.
International Award in Poetry
May 2002: Editor’s Choice Award for Outstanding Achievement in Poetry, presented by the International Library of Poetry.
3RD SPRING & POETRY FESTIVAL IN ISTANBUL, TURKEY
I was a guest poet at the 3rd Spring and Poetry Festival in Istanbul, Turkey, from 11th to 13th May 2018.
Other guest-poets included Ion Deaconescu, Yasar Mirac, Rati Saxena, Laura Garavaglia, Deniz Durukan, Ihsan Tevfik, Metin Kaygalak, Mehmet Altun, Salahattin Yolgiden, Jeton Kelmendi, Mehmet Said Aydin, Dmytro Chystiak and Mina Gligoric.
